07/29/2016

Fans of the series Merlí read carefully. Francesc Orella is shooting the second season of the popular series, which returns to our screens in September. We take a little break from the filming to talk with him. Here you will find a little sneak peak of the new season.

- You are currently filming Merlí's second season in Barcelona.

We started shooting in May and we will be here until the end of July.

- What filming locations have been chosen this time?

We filmed, as in the first season, in the former Menéndez Pidal School, in Horta and the outdoors in Verge de Montserrat School, also in Horta. I can already anticipate that this season will take place in some different places, such as a shopping center in Barcelona, the district of Sarrià, a bowling in the city, several warehouses in Zona Franca...

- I know you can never advance many things of the new next season...

We can say that there will be new characters, some have folded and there are entering new ones. We have a new student and also new participation of some parents of the teenagers, who will rather play action. There will be many surprises, you'll see.

- The structure, where in each chapter there is a philosopher who raises a particular issue that becomes the guiding thread, will continue in this second season?

Yes, we will have new philosophers who will introduce the general topic of the chapter. Many crucial issues will be shocking for the viewer.

- And the official start of the second season will be September 19th, right?

Indeed, when returning from holidays.

- Barcelona has a very important role in the series. What vision do you think the city wants to give?

Barcelona is fully linked to the life of Merlí's students and their families. All locations are in the city and this makes the plot very close to the audience. This is the backdrop of the story.

- Do you know the work of the Barcelona Film Commission?

Yes, of course. You could not shoot without them, it serves to facilitate and promote filming in the area, this time in Barcelona.

- What do you think about their task?

It is always good to have facilities to help the audiovisual industry and support this sector. In fact, it is a current need.

- What do you think Barcelona has, as a city that welcomes shootings?

Urban planning, it has a very varied microcosm, very different. This makes Barcelona very attractive. The contrasts that offers Mediterranean basin and its maritime districts vs. old Barcelona, the Gothic, the most off neighbourdhoods, the Raval, the Rivera... and then you have Collserola. Barcelona has a very varied landscape and very human. You can tell here different stories. And it is because of its very strong personality.

- Let's talk about other projects you are working on.

For this 2017 two productions in which I participated will be premiered. The first one is Contratiempo, by Oriol Paulo, where I had the pleasure of working with Mario Casas and Bárbara Lennie.

Also released El Guardián Invisible, directed by Fernando Gómez Molina, an adaptation of the books trilogy of El Baztán, written by Dolores Redondo, a powerful production with many different and spectacular filming locations.
