Aitona

Aitona, municipality of Segrià, is known for the quality of the fresh fruit emanating from its privileged land. It also has an exceptional wealth, the church of Sant Antolí built with the stones of Castell dels Montcada in Aitona, the chapel of Sant Gaietà and the hermitage of Carratalà are good examples. It has dryland spaces, such as the Sierra Brisa, where Robert Capa immortalized the last Republican offensive of 1938 and the Aitona Erms with desert landscapes. Special mention is due to the Genó site where the first signs of beer production were discovered at European level. On the other hand, irrigation agriculture offers impressive landscapes in the flowering season, fruits in the summer and a gradient of green and yellowish colors in the autumn. In some of the spaces the film Second Origin of Carles Porta has been shot based on the novel by Manuel de Pedrolo and several scenes from the film Alcarràs.
